'Knockdown' was devised over Zoom during the first lockdown with young writer-director Stuart McKenzie and senior members of White City Youth Theatre. It was born out of the boredom and futility that members of the WCYT were feeling after two months of isolation. At the end of the summer holidays, once lockdown restrictions were eased, we were able to shoot this short film on location in our local area around White City and Shepherds Bush.
White City Youth Theatre provides a unique creative outlet which nurtures and inspires young people’s voices through delivering drama workshops, holiday programmes and performance projects. During lockdown we were not able to run our usual activities so we started developing new ideas during Zoom sessions. This film was a fantastic way for our members to keep engaged, get creative and for most of them to be involved in the making of a film for the first time. Members of our youth theatre got the opportunity to work with professional filmmakers.
