Through photomontages based on photographs of myself taken when I was a child in 1970s and 80s London, I reflect upon the strangeness and tension of growing up. By transforming these family pictures using techniques developed throughout my practice, I attempt to lay claim to a time in life when external adult narratives were the overarching drivers of my sense of self and identity.
The heightened sense of reality as encountered in dreams and moments of clarity is at the core of my work. My practice reflects a lifelong concern with a non-dualistic conception of the world, which both feeds and is informed by my interest in Buddhism, where states considered to be binary opposites can co-exist in the same time and place.
