Kate made this piece as part of the Mosaic course at the Macbeth Centre in Hammersmith. The process involves transferring a simple design onto board, using tile nippers to cut vitreous glass tile into a variety of shapes, making a curve and, through the use of ‘andamento’, explore the expressive possibilities of the mosaic medium. Kate learned how to stick down mosaic tesserae into her chosen design, using the ‘direct method’ and grouting and polishing to finish her mosaic.
The Macbeth Centre is an adult education hub based just off King Street near the Town Hall. Their provision aims to support learners into higher level courses, work, supported employment and to have an active life in the community.
